STEWART:
Malcolm STEWART, lived in Richmond/Scotland/Robeson County area of NC, probably born in the 1830's. Mary Jane CALHOUN, wife of Malcolm for about one year before she left him and later filed for divorce. They were married March, 1854 and divorced in 1856. Mary Jane was said to have been born in Scotland, came to US as a child. They lived in the Richmond/Scotland/Robeson Co area of NC.
Anna Jane STEWART, dau. of Malcolm and Mary Jane, presumably the only child of the marriage, was born 31 Jan 1855 in the Richmond/Scotland/Robeson County area and died 11 Nov 1927 in Scotland Co. She married Dennis JERNIGAN of Richmond/Scotland/Robeson Co NC area in the late 1870's.
They had six children: Edward, Parilee, Mary Katherine (my maternal grandmother), twins who died at birth and Dennis Marvin. Anna Jane and Dennis JERNIGAN are buried in Stewartsville Cemetery, Scotland
Co., NC.
I am looking for any additional information I can find on Malcolm and/or Mary Jane. Specifically, I'd like to learn dates of birth/death, parents, siblings, additional marriages/children, facts about their lives. If Mary Jane did come from Scotland, perhaps I could learn enough to trace her lineage back across the ocean. Depending on his exact date of birth, it is possible that Malcolm may have fought in the Civil War. Did he? Whether he did or not, it seems likely that his ancestors came also from Scotland. Who were they? Does either of these people have living descendants other than the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren of Anna Jane?

MCLEAN:
Seek names of wife and children of Duncan McLean, native of Scotland, who sailed from Campbeltown, Scotland, to Cape Fear, North Carolina in 1770. A Duncan McLean on 22 May 1772 was granted by Josiah Martin, the Royal Governor of N.C., "150 acres Anson (Anson County) on the E. branches of Silver Run (creek) including his own improvement". Note: Richmond County, NC and Montgomery County NC were cut out of Anson County in 1779 during the Revolution.
The "Silver Run" creek referred to in the grant begins in Montgomery County and runs back of the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, established in the 1770's, located in Richmond County but within 100 yards of the Montgomery County line. The minute book of another old Presbyterian Church in Richmond County, The Harmony Presbyterian Church indicates that in 1802 Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church was known as "McLean's" (church). It is my belief that it was named after the Duncan McLean who settled near the church on Silver Run Creek. Note: The Harmony Presbyterian Church is today's Ellerbe, NC Presbyterian Church.
My G.G. grandfather, John D. McLean, native of Scotland, died in Richmond County NC in the spring of 1846. He acquired land in the 1790 about 15 miles distance from where the above Duncan lived on Silver Run Creek. It is possible that my John D.(uncan) McLean was a son of Duncan of Silver Run Creek. Any information will be appreciated.

JOSEPH CROUCH was born 1825, but the family left NC sometime before the 1860 census when they were found in Benton County, MS. From information I have gathered recently, I believe that his relatives there in Richmond County were JOHN CROUCH, JOHN CROUCH JR., SAMUEL CROUCH, JEREMIAH CROUCH AND JAMES CROUCH. Were all these brothers? Was JOHN SR. the father of these boys? The 1850 census shows JOSEPH with wife LAVENIA, daughter ELIZABETH, daughter MARTHA, son ELI. MCKENZIE (TYSON, CURRIE)
Seeking information on my great grandmother Kate Elizabeth MCKENZIE (b. 21 Dec 1839 - d. 29 June 1907, Randolph Co, NC) -- and her parents. Kate was married on 3 Oct 1863 by a justice of the peace in Richmond Co. Her husband, Henry Clay TYSON ( b. 16 Sep 1840, Randolph Co, NC - d. 29 June 1917, Randolph Co, NC) had to pick up deserters and deliver them to prison -- which I assume was near there. Henry Clay TYSON was with the North Carolina infantry, 26th regiment, company H. Henry Clay
had already proposed to Kate in a very sweet letter, written while his company was camped near Magnolia, NC, on 31 Jan 1863.
I have no names for Kate's mother and father, but believe they could be from Richmond Co because of the marriage ceremony . The only other information we have related to our MCKENZIE family is a letter written in 1838 addressed to Kate McKenzie, dear niece, from her uncle, H. CURRIE, a doctor and planter in Caddo Parish, LA. The letter mentions his brother Lauchlin, also Angus. The Kate who married Henry Clay had not yet been born, hence my belief this letter is addressed to her
mother.
I seek information on Kate and her MCKENZIE family and any associated lines, if known. Any leads or suggestions in solving this family mystery would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Betsy.

I am looking for Murdock McLeod b. 1785. The only Murdock I have found in the 1800 Census of NC is here in Richmond County. As a matter of fact, I found
two, one with family and one alone. Could this be my Murdock? Murdock was found in Baker Co., GA on the 1850 census. He was a farmer and 65yrs. His
wife Sarah 40 yrs and children: Miltilda, Sarah Ann, George, Andrew Jackson, Baneta, and William. There may have been more children but did not persue the
1860 census because of the limited time. The oldest child was 20 yrs old in 1850 and all the children were born in GA. Murdock was in GA in 1830 or

BUTLER (LEVINER, CHAVIS)
I am looking for any and all information on a Benjamin Butler (B: ABt 1830) who arried a Lucy or Lucinda Leviner (B: Abt 1832) - the 1860 Marlboro County, SC Census has them noted as having been born in North Carolina. They had several children - Mark, Martha Jane, Lucy, James and John that I know of as of 1860.
Martha Jane (B: Abt 1845 - 1850) married James Murphy around 1870 - They are living in Marlboro County at that time - however I lose track of them until
1900 when they show up in the Red Hill area of Marlboro County. Then in 1910 Martha shows up as head of household and a widow on the Henderson, Vance
County, NC Census. Martha Jane and James had a total of 13 children - I don't have all their names but the ones I do know are : Della, Frank, Clyde, Lela -
possibly a Lloyd and a Pete and an Annie Jane who married an Aleck Dunn in the Marlboro County area - Lela Murphy married William Edward Chavis in 1912 in
the McColl area of South Carolina - Lela & William Edward are my grandparents. William Edward had four Children when he married Lela and she had two - then
they had 8 children to gether - one of which was my daddy - James Lee Chavis. I'm also looking for any information on Lucy or Lucinda Leviner -- all I have
is her name and the fact that she was born in North Carolina sometime around 1830. If you have any information on this line please contact me. Misty Chavis

I'm searching for info on 3 of my gr-grandfathers. My 6th/gr-grandfather was Hugh MACSWEYN, born 1723 at Isle of Skye, Inverness Shire, Scotland. He died in 1802 near Bear Creek, Richmond Co, NC... His son & my 5th/gr-grandfather was Angus MACSWEYN, born 1740, also in Scotland. He died in 1817 in Richmond Co, NC. I only know of 2 of his sons, Roderick & Daniel. Here it looks as if the spelling of the name changed to MCSWEEN... My 4th/gr-grandfather was Daniel MCSWEEN, born between 1780-1790, in Scotland. He married a Mary CARROLL & died in Barbour Co, AL in 1859. I have 6 children shown for Daniel. (1)Daniel "Mack" (2)Catherine (3)Angus (4)Mary GEORGE... my 3rd/gr-grandmother (5)Nancy (6)Malcolm. Basically, this is all I have on them. I do have further back to the year 1066 on this line but I would like to find some more family info/history on these 3 if it's available. If I can help anyone with descendants from Mary GEORGE or ancestors back to 1066 just
let me know! Thanks for any help! Thank you. Deb Kilgore, kilgore@web-access.net, Zephyr, TX

ALLEN (WALKER)
I am searching for any information about an Afro-American family who moved to RICHMOND-SCOTLAND county (Rockingham) in the mid-20's from Anson County. Head
of household was Calvin Allen (also sometimes called "Cap"). Calvin's wife was Mary Jane Walker. I am told she died before the move to Richmond County but
I'm not sure. At least two of his offspring moved there with Calvin, Fulton and Millard. Another of his sons also moved to the area - Jessie Allen. Jessie Allen was married to Nezzie Allen. Jessie died in Hamlet. Fulton married a Richmond County (Rockingham) woman (Afro-American) named Cora Mae Martin. I'm not sure who her parents were. Another brother was Sidney Allen and he was married to Lizza. A supposed cousin to the Allens was George Nickerson. Any information would be appreciated.

SWEENEY/SWINNEY (HENNEGAN, PATE, COLE)
Attention, all persons interested in the origins and descendants of Darby H. SWINNEY/SWEENEY --will written 18 Oct 1820 in Richmond County, NC. Darby only began to take up land in the Gum Swamp/Joe's Creek area (present day Scotland Co.) on the South Carolina line during the first few years of the nineteenth century. Before that, in 1800, he was an inhabitant of Liberty County, SC (now Marion), along with a John SWINNEY, justice of the peace for Marion. In 1790, he and John were living in Prince George's Parish, Georgetown District, SC--prob. also present day Marion Co. In 1810, in Richmond County census, he is called Darby SWINNEY, Esq. His will
and final accounting by executors Stephen PATE and James COLE, give his daughters in detail: Hannah, wife of James COLE, Honour, wife of Stephen PATE, (?), wife of Samuel PATE, (?) wife of Jacob MANGRAM or MANGUM, Mary, wife of (?) BETHEA, Elizabeth, wife of John MATTHESON, Sarah, wife of (?) GRAVES, Martha, wife of Joel REDGILL. He also had a son, probably the Alfred SWINNEY living near him in 1810 and 1820. That son had a son who is listed in the will, "Syrus SWINNEY." Darby is associated with the HENNEGAN family of Marion and Marlboro Dist., SC. He witnessed deeds for that family in Marion and that is where we find his middle initial, "H." His
full name was probably Darby HENNEGAN SWINNEY. A Darby HENNEGAN lived in Marlboro (1750--1826) and is buried there at Parnassus. What is the relationship between these two families? Bishop GREGG states that the HENNEGANs were originally SWINNEYs and changed their name. Is this true, or proveable? Would love to share information with any persons interested in this line. Thanks, Larry CATES, 702H Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262

Quaker also.

MCLEOD
I've come to a dead end in trying to research my family so I thought maybe someone out there could help. My great great grandfather was named Angus MCLEOD. All I know is that he settled in Hamilton Co., FL, but according to the 1860 census records, he originated in NC. I'm not sure if he was born there or lived there previously. As best I can figure out, he was born abt. 1810. Would any of you have an Angus McLeod in your research? I'd really appreciate hearing from you.
